A KVASS JUG WITH COVER

MAKER'S MARK IN CYRILLIC OF PETR LOSKUTOV, MOSCOW, 1886

The body of baluster form with spreading foot, the lower section simulating basket weave, the upper section repoussé chased and engraved in relief with a rural scene of a peasant woman tending sheep, goats and cows and a man playing a pipe, all against a wooded background, the foot engraved in Russian 'Odessa, 14th April, 1888, in memory, from Sh. and L. Kuris', the cover realistically chased and engraved in the form of a cloth wrapped around ears of wheat, marked on the flange of the cover and the underside of the base
