In 'The Revolver' 1865-1888 Taylerson defines the classic Pryse revolver as follows:- 'the revolver was a pleasing hinged-frame design, with a 'press-in' barrel latch, a turn-button cylinder release, and a double-action lock in which the sear tail protruded through the back of the trigger-guard... all these features are commonly regarded as identifying features of the arm, and the work of its inventor, Charles Pryse.' Whilst this system is a classic in its own right, it is rewarding to see it combined with the superb workmanship of the Scottish maker Alexander Henry as in this excellent example
