FROM THE ESTATE OF THE LATE MRS. OLIVIA WRIGHT
1976 FORD MUSTANG II MACH 1
Registration No. NAY 939P
Chassis No. 6FO4F150164
Engine No. 6F04F150164
Pale blue with blue cloth interior.
Engine: V8, overhead valve, 4,950cc, 133bhp at 3600rpm; Gearbox: three speed automatic; Brakes: front, vented discs; rear, drum; Suspension: front, coil springs; rear, live axle with leaf springs. Right hand drive.
The "new Mustang", as it was heralded, was Ford's attempt to recapture the original Mustang market by introducing a 1970's version of its famous original sportscar. Overall, it was built to a smaller scale and made available in two body styles, namely Notchback or Fastback Coupe. The size and proportions were appealing, albeit based on an existing Ford platform, and because of these economies of scale it was a sporty car built for a low price. The Notchback was available in luxury specification and carried the Ghia motif when in this guise. A big step was the fitting of a 302 V8 engine and, despite being in a low state of tune, this gave the car quiet acceleration and a very respectable 0-60mph time of about 10.5 seconds.
This 1976 example was purchased by the late Mrs. Wright in 1979 and used by her quite regularly as an everyday motor car. It is the Ghia model and therefore has the more opulent interior with cloth seats covered with a softer grade of patterned material and colour co-ordinated with the exterior. Further "extras" include automatic transmission, electric steel sunroof, Stallion mirrors and forged aluminium wheels. It is offered for sale with a V5 registration document, the MoT having expired in May of this year.
