'Started early & visited the neighbouring Hills from one of which (the one to the South of the Fort, where the English placed 2 cannon at the time of the Cannonading) made a View of the Fort. From thence we went to the SW end of the fort with an intention of getting to the Plain on the West side of the Fort but were told by our Guides that we could not accomplish it. However we were determined to make the attempt & succeeded & were well repaid for our trouble in getting down a steep nulla by the many fine Views we were presented with afterward' (Journal).
