A REGENCY MAHOGANY WORKTABLE
Inlaid overall in ebony and boxwood, the rounded rectangular twin flap top above a mahogany-lined frieze fitted drawer and a further drawer, above a workbasket slide, on squared splayed tapering legs on brass caps castors, restorations, the workbasket lacking, originally fitted with baize-lined writing surface

Provenance
Possibly acquired through the marriage of Georgiana Anson in 1846, the daughter of Gen. Sir William Anson, who was great grandfather of the Rev'd. William Thornton, Kingsthorpe Hall, Northampton.

Lot Essay

This table features the Etruscan-scrolled legs that were introduced in Messrs. A. Hepplewhite & Co.'s Cabinet-Maker and Uphosterer's Guide, 1788. A related work-table with candle-flaps and lozenged escutcheons was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 2 February 1996, lot 319.
