Decorated overall with ripple moulding, the demi-lune ended rectangular top with a pierced foliate gallery, above three small part cedar-lined drawers and a sliding green baize-lined writing surface, above a pair of part cedar-lined drawers, flanked by a pair of convex rectangular panelled doors, on spirally-turned baluster legs, each with a pair of scrolled downswept feet, brass castors, minor losses and replacements, probably originally with an apron

Lot Essay

This robust form of Carlton House desk with richly-fretted gallery, has spiralled pedestals rising from a drum plinth with scrolled 'claws' in the Elizabethan manner illustrated in Thomas King's Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exemplified of 1835.
