The serpentine rectangular green beize-lined twin-flap top above a shaped frieze, the back legs with a hinged extending frieze joined by a sliding card tray, on scrolled cabriole legs headed by a shell motif, with dealer's label to the inside of the reverse frieze inscribed 'DENYS WREY LTD/Dealers in XVIII Century English Furniture/NO 45 Sloane Street, SW1'

Lot Essay

The table's serpentined frame with voluted feet corresponds to that of the Louis XV 'cabriolet' armchair such as featured in Thomas Malton's Compleat Treatise on Perspective, 1775, pl. 33, fig. 131).
The fan-motif on the cabriole legs of this card-table is very similar to that on a pembroke-table illustrated in C. Claxton Stevens and S. Whittington's, 18th Century Furniture, The Norman Adams Collection, Woodbridge, 1985, p.320-321.
