Crossbanded overall in rosewood and inlaid with boxwood, ebony, and ebonised lines, the hinged rectangular top enclosing a fitted interior of lidded compartments around a central mirror, on a ratchetted support, above three simulated drawers and four variously-sized drawers, the central drawer with circular holes for fitments, on ring turned tapering legs, brass caps and castors, lacking one compartment lid, one leg restored

Lot Essay

A 'Lady's Dressing Table' pattern, with pedestal drawers and hinged top, featured in Thomas Sheraton's The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing-Book, London, 1802, no. 12, pl. 2. The actor David Garrick died in 1779, but his widow continued to occupy their Thames-side villa at Hampton until 1823. Messrs. Burell & Sons held a sale on the premises on the 2 July of that year entitled 'A Catalogue of the Valuable and Curious Effects of the late David Garrick, Esq.'
