Lot Essay

The tables 'Etruscan-scrolled feet correspond to a pattern for 'standards for tripod firescreens' and 'claw tables' published in The Cabinet-Maker's London Book of Prices, 2nd ed., 1793, pl. 29. A pair of firescreens with tripod feet and similarly fluted balusters were sold by The Lady Nugent in these Rooms, 20 June 1974, lot 93.
