The standard fender is designed in the Grecian manner and embellished with a golden palm-flower ribbon guilloche inlay inspired by the Erektheon. Similar fenders were introduced at Heaton Hall, Cheshire around 1823 under the guidance of the architect Lewis Wyatt (C. Gilbert and A. Wells-Cole, 'The Fashionable Fire Place 1660-1840', Exhibition Catalogue, Temple Newsam House, 1985, cat. no. 22)
