A French faience hand-warmer in the form of a book
Third quarter of the 18th century, probably Nevers
Painted in blue, iron-red and yellow, one side with a putto holding a bird before a landscape with buildings inscribed monnois/fait tout, the other side with two birds before an empty bird-cage beneath the sun and moon inscribed qant cette oyseau (sic) chantera mon, amour finira and Je ni ranteray jamais, the centre with a pierced rosette, the top pierced (restored crack through spine and both sides, minor glaze flaking)
