An Urbino Istoriato dish from the Colonna service
Circa 1550, the reverse inscribed in blue Gione Conerso in fiama p/Amor
Painted with a mythological subject, Jupiter to the left brandishing a thunderbolt, to the right a nude couple seated among flames with Cupid holding his bow on a rampart above, in an extensive river landscape with two tall trees, the arms of Colonna in a scroll cartouche at top centre (minor chips to rim, old hole for suspension)
9½ in. (24cm.) diam.
