A Berlin pierced dessert-plate from a service made for Frederick the Great
Circa 1784, blue sceptre mark, painter's 56., impressed 13B
The centre painted en grisaille with a scene from Ovid, a warrior appearing among clouds before galleons filled with warriors within a gilt herring-bone band entwined with a puce and yellow ribbon, myrtle and flowers, the pierced border formed as interlocking arches enriched in gilding and with shaped gilt band rim (slight silvering to upper part of centre, slight flaking to gilt rim)
10¾in. (24.5cm.) diam.
