This service was ordered by the Austrian Court as a present for King George IV of England on the occasion of his visit to the Vienna porcelain factory. Made between 1821 and 1824 it consisted of 316 pieces. As George IV preferred several cases of Tokay wine instead, the service was never presented to him. It was sent to Thailand and Japan with the East Asia expedition, where it was sold separately. A tureen and cover was exhibited in the 'Biedermeier in Oesterreich', Vienna 1963 exhibition, see the exhibition catalogue, Wilhelm Mrazek, Waltraud Neuwirth, Wiener Porzellan 1718-1864, no. 704; see also Sotheby's, 17 March 1987, lot 304 for a tureen and cover.
