Carl Moll played a vital role in the artistic and cultural life of Vienna at the turn of the century. Born in 1861, he studied at the Kunstakademie, Vienna, and numbered amongst his artist friends Gustav Klimt, Gustav Mahler and Oskar Kokoschka. Moll was a member of the Wiener Künstlerbund, and co-founded the Vienna Secession and the Österreichischer Werkbund. He was responsible for organising the landmark Impressionist and Kunsthaus exhibitions held in Vienna in 1903, as well as the first major exhibition of the Wiener Werkstätte of 1905. Several works by Moll are housed in the Österreichische Galerie, Vienna, and the Historisches Museum der Stadt, Wien.
