At the end of 1917 Münter moved to Copenhagen from Stockholm, where she had been living for the previous two and a half years. In 1918 she had her first major individual show at Die Frie Kunstudstilling in Copenhagen.
Anne Mochon has written on Münter's work at this time: "objects in still lifes and interiors became more isolated and carefully delineated rather than clustered together informally as they had been in her painting in Munich and Murnau. Münter retained her sensitivity to recording her environment, but now with a renewed dependence on drawing to describe figures and define space." (Gabriele Münter Between Munich and Murnau, Harvard, 1980, p. 52).
