With slightly flattened spherical body and cylindrical neck on short foot, associated scrolling handle with upper dragon-head terminal, the body with a band of inlaid scrolling vine around naskh inscription cartouches with Persian verses alternating with arabesque medallions, bands above and below of interlaced floral arabesques, some forming arcading, the neck with a band of similar inscription cartouches linked by medalllions between bands of meandering vine interlace, the underside of the foot with a band of meandering vine around a flowerhead roundel, extremities rubbed, handle probably associated

Lot Essay

A jug very similar in the arrangement of the decoration and the choice of devcorative details was published by Pope, A.U.: A Survey of Persian Art, Oxford, 1938, pl.1376). It carries the signature of a certain Habib'ullah b. 'Ali Baharjani.
