Of circular form, the surface sharply cast with a central roundel depicting a seated musician playing a lute, in a broad border of naskh calligraphy between plain bands, light silvery iridescence, one old chip to border
3½in. (9cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The inscription in cursive script reads: 'Umar bin al-Husayn Nasr 'Imad al-Dawla wa 'l-Din (...) al-Dawla wa 'l-Din (...).

The individual mentioned here has not been identified.

This piece can be compared with a glass disc in the Museum für Islamische Kunst, Berlin (Kröger, J.: Glass, Loseblattkatalog Unpublizierter Werke aus Deutschen Museen, Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz, Museum für Islamische Kunst, I, Mainz, 1984, pp.139-40, no.119) and another sold in these Rooms (Islamic Art and Indian Miniatures, 25 April 1995, lot 253).
