Victor Emanuel (1759-1824), third son of Victor Amadeus III, King of Sardinia and his consort Infanta Maria Antonieta (1729-1785), daughter of Philip V, King of Spain and the Indies. He married in 1789, Maria Theresa (1773-1824), eldest daughter of Ferdinand, Duke of Modena, Archduke of Austria. He commanded the Sardininan forces against the French 1792-1796 and accompanied his brother King Charles Emanuel IV to Sardinia in 1799, restored to Piedmont, Savoy, Nice and later Genoa. He acceeded after the abdication of his elder brother Charles Emanuel IV in 1802 and abdicated himself, following a revolt in Piedmont, in favour of his younger brother Charles Felix on 13 March 1821.
