Pauline Bonaparte (1780-1825), second sister of Napoleon (see lot 177), married in 1797 General Leclerc. She married secondly, one year after the premature death of her husband in 1802, Prince Camillo Borghese. Soon bored of marital monogamy, she left her husband. A famous beauty, she was Napoleons's favourite sister and he styled her Duchess of Guastalla in 1806. In 1814, she visited her brother banished to the island of Elba and presented her jewels to him. Towards the end of her life, she was reunited to Prince Borghese and died in Florence.
