Lot Essay

In the exhibition catalogue, the outstanding freshness of the colours of this portrait is praised and explained by the conservation in the original morocco case. This piece was intended to be bought by the Albertina at the time of the exhibition and was presumptuously catalogued as a new acquisition of the museum - this purchase was nontheless never realised.
