Of Grecian amphora form, each with a removeable domed top with tapering bulbous finial, above a pinched neck flanked by rectangular handles, the tapering body above a turned socle and square plinth, on a square green serpentine base, one finial re-glued

Lot Essay

A pair of lidded vases of green serpentine with related Grecian-style handles were purchased from the Parisian marchand-mercier Martin-Eloi Lignereux in 1803, by John Russell, 6th Duke of Bedford and sold by the Trustees of the Bedford Estates in these Rooms, 9 June 1994, lot 110.
