A REGENCY MAHOGANY KLISMOS BERGERE
The yoke-shaped solid padded toprail upholstered in light-brown leather on square sunk-panelled supports above a padded seat covered in conforming leather, with reeded seatrail between roundels, on square tapering sabre legs, brass caps and castors, the back castors stamped 'BS & P PATENT' below a crown, the seatrail stamped to the underside 'B637' with paper label to the underside inscribed in ink '035'

A related Grecian chair pattern, with scrolled leg and upholstered tablet rail together with a seat-rail enriched with reeding and paterae, featured in Rudolph Ackermann's The Repository of Arts, 1810 (illustrated in P. Agius, Ackermann's Regency Furniture and Interiors, London, 1984, pl.11). A related set of chairs with columnar legs by Gillingtons of Dublin (George and Samuel Gillington were recorded at various addresses and in various partnerships between 1815 and 1838) was offered anonymously in these Rooms, 7 July 1994, lot 40 and a further similar pair of chairs is illustrated in E. Joy, English Furniture, 1800-1851, London, 1977, p.58).
