Lot Essay
The circular 'loo' or 'lanterloo' table, with its Grecian wreath-enriched frieze and stepped plinth on palm-wrapped lion feet, relates to a pattern published in Nicholson's, Practical Cabinet-Maker, 1826 (pl.69). Such tables were often provided en suite with card-tables, and this pattern of ormolu paws features on a card-table formerly in the possession of Temple Williams Ltd. (illustrated in M. Jourdain, Regency Furniture 1795-1830, London, rev.ed., 1965, fig.160).
