The fox-brown field with a shaded pistachio-green large serrated medallion with hooked palmette pendants containing an ivory, charcoal black and brick-red stylised shaped hooked cruciform medallion with flowerhead cartouche panels, the shaded blue serrated hooked spandrels containing angular vines and stellar flowerheads, in a narrow ivory polychrome panelled border between plain brick-red stripes, a brick-red angular linked polychrome arcaded panel skirt, kilim strip at each end, corroded black, minor areas of wear and re-piling

Lot Essay

A very similar rug is in the Ala ed-Din mosque, Konya, which was the starting point for May Beattie's publishing of the Karapinar group (Beattie, M.: 'Some Rugs of the Konya Region', Oriental Art, vol.XXII, no.1, 1976, fig.1, p.61).
