The shaded brick-red field scattered with a variety of flowerheads and polychrome panels around a central column of linked serrated panels enclosed by stylised angular leaves, flanked by polychrome stylised rosettes, an ivory panel upper right with the date 1929?, inner ivory zigzag stripe, in an ivory border of polychrome stylised hooked panels between shaded brown panelled flowerhead and blue polychrome flowerhead stripes, outer barber-pole and flowerhead stripes
5ft.10in. x 4ft. (178cm. x 122cm.)

Lot Essay

Were it not for the date panel, whose reading could be disputed, this rug would normally be thought to have been made in around 1900.
