The shaded caramel field with an overall design formed of three columns of polychrome palmette vine and a variety of stylised plant motifs together with single polychrome flowerheads, in a narrow brick-red and light blue zigzig stripe, probably missing main border, areas of re-weave and old repair, full pile

Lot Essay

This rug with its brilliant colours takes its design from borders of larger carpets. Other examples of this field concept are known, often on a yellow ground, but the present design itself appears to be unique and executed in wonderfully preserved colours.
