CHINESE FURNITURE -- An Album of 12 watercolour drawings of Chinese furniture, flower-vases and other objects, on pith paper, each watercolour mounted on paper and framed by pale blue ribbons. [Canton, studio of Sunqua, ca. 1845]. 2° (322 x 212mm). Contemporary yellow and green floral cloth with ties, contemporary manuscript title label on front cover, and blue and red paper label on inside of front cover with name SUNQUA in looped frame surrounded by stars.
Sunqua was particularly noted as a port and ship painter, and was active in Macao and Canton between 1830 and 1870. This is an attractive example, in fine condition, of a watercolour album of the period. See J.G. Lee (ed.).
