Letterpress titles in red and black in each work, and many fine copper engravings as follows: I: folding engraved title (not called for in Berlin Kat.), 60 folding numbered engravings by Mathias Remboldt after Furtenbach (plate 23 torn without loss, marginal tear in plates 50-51 just into plate mark); II: text diagrams, folding engraved title, 40 numbered engraved plates by Raphael or Jacob Custodis after Furtenbach, all but one folding (slight tear into first plate without loss); III: engraved title, folding engraved portrait of Furtenbach, and 35 folding numbered engravings by M. Remboldt and J.J. Campanus; IV: 15 folding engravings (tear in plate 11 without loss); all folding plates on guards. 17th-century vellum over paper boards, titles lettered on spine. A fine set of four works on architecture by the eminent Ulm architect Joseph Furtenbach. Having studied architecture and engineering in Italy, Furtenbach returned to Ulm where he designed buildings and gardens while pursuing other business activities. His construction of the Ulm city fortifications were among the strongest of their time and they remained impregnable during the Thirty Years' War. Berlin Kat. 1956; 1953; 1957; 1958.
