FIRST EDITION. "Burlington purchased Jones's designs from John Talman in May 1720 and in September began to have them engraved by Henry Hulsbergh from meticulous copies made by his recently appointed draughtsman and architectural assistant, Henry Flitcroft... It is unlikely however that any definite composition or programme was decided upon until about 1724 when Kent was employed to edit and publish the work. Subscription was started... and by 17 May 1727 two folio volumes were finished and ready to be delivered to the 380 subscribers": Harris p.250. Fowler 162; Harris 385; Cf. Berlin Kat. OS2268. (2)
