4° (264 x 208mm). Decorative colour additional title, colour dedication, 50 plates, 4 printed with illustration on recto and verso, most printed in colour, woodcut headpieces. (Lacking frontispiece, some spotting). Contemporary half morocco (slightly worn).

FIRST EDITION of the magnum opus of the "first true colour printer of the nineteenth century in England" (McLean). The work is a technical triumph; a number of the plates are printed in up to ten colours, and from one to twenty-nine distinct woodblocks.
