4° (284 x 228mm). Parallel titles and text in English and French. 50 hand-coloured engraved plates by and after Brown. FIRST EDITION. Based on specimens in the natural history collections of Marmaduke Tunstall, Thomas Pennant and others, Brown's work was intended as a sort of supplement to George Edwards's A Natural History of Uncommon Birds. Much of the text was supplied by Pennant, who had previously employed Brown for two of the plates in his British Zoology. Brown, a Dane by birth, was also known as a flower painter, exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1770 to 1791. Anker 72; Zimmer p.101; Fine Bird Books p.62; Nissen IVB 151.
