Lot Essay

Baccarat produced this model of candelabra for the Exposition Universelle in 1867. Czar Nicholas II first commissioned a pair of torcheres as a gift for his wife Alexandra Feodorovna in 1896, and after ordered another larger pair for his own use. Subsequently the Baccarat archive refers to this model and its variants as the 'Tsarine' and 'Tsar' torcheres.
