The serpentine-shaped brèche d'alep marble top above a pair of panelled doors each decorated with foliage and bamboo on a black ground, the interior with a pair of adjustable shelves, the sides with parquetry cube and trellis inlay, with shaped apron and on shaped squat feet headed by foliate clasps and on foliate sabots, twice-stamped G. DURAND to the upper side of the carcass

Lot Essay

Gervais-Maximilien-Eugene Durand is recorded as working in Paris during the second hlaf of the 19th Century. He exhibited at the Universal exhibition in 1889.
A side cabinet inlaid of virtually the same design and mounts, with marquetry by G.Durand, is illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard Le Mobilier Français du XIX Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 183.
