Leo Laporte-Blairsy was born in Toulouse, studied sculpture in Paris under Falguière and Mercié and was a regular exhibitor at the Salon, winning a number of medals. One of his most notable works, The Peacock Girl is a sensual piece of sculpture, depicting a naked woman with long hair swirling back into a tail of peacock feathers. Combining a romantic subject with organic lines, the work is typical of the Art Nouveau period of between 1890 and 1910.
