maker's mark of G. Balaine, Paris, 1st half of the 19th century
Shaped-oval, the stand on four flower and foliate scroll feet, the tureen on spreading foot and with two winged dragon handles, domed cover, foliate scroll ring handle and plain liner with two ring handles, with shell and foliate scroll borders, the stand and cover each engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on tureen and liner
the stand 18¼in. (46.5cm.) long
the tureen, cover and stand 17in. (43cm.) high
The arms on the soup turren and cover and the wine coasters are those of Prince Carl of Bavaria (1797-1875), younger brother of King
