A BIZEN KATANA WITH KOSHIRAE
Mei: Bishu Osafune Morimasa, 16th Century
The blade honzukuri, iorimune with medium point (chu-gissaki), slight torii-zori, forging pattern masame and tempered edge suguha of nioi, boshi obxcured, tang suriage, with three holes, (two plugged), 69cm.; encased in brown lacquer crushed straw saya with shakudo and gilt scabbard ornaments en suite carved in relief with dragons, the lacquered leather bound tsuka with menuki in the form of coiled dragons, a thick oval shakudo nanako tsuba, the mimi similarly carved with dragons and decorated with silvered metal and gilt, 19th Century
