Lot Essay

Douglas, 8th Duke of Hamilton and 5th Duke of Brandon, succeeded to the title on the death of his brother in 1769; on his own death without heirs in 1799, he was succeeded by his uncle Archibald. Tom Johnson was a noted boxer of the time.
