A LATE VICTORIAN PAINTED-METAL, BRASS AND SILVER-MOUNTED HUMIDOR

In the form of a model coach, the central compartment with hinged lid under two of the four padded seats, enclosing a plain brass interior, with five lanterns two of which act as cigar-cutters and a stick holder, with match container to the reverse, simulating a luggage hold, the coach resting on four brass wheels, the front two articulated, with a harness, with 'COMET' to the reverse, with 'WHITCHURCH, ANGEL HOTEL, ABERGAVENNY, GOODRICH' plus emblems for the 'ROYAL HOTEL ROSS' and 'KING'S HEAD, MONMOUTH', the reverse with 'ROSS MONMOUTH /ABERGAVENNY', bracketed to a moulded rectangular mahogany base, the interior stamped 'W. THORNHILL & CO 144 NEW BOND ST.', the exterior signed 'H.M. CALMONT', lanterns with maker's mark for Henry Stewart Brown, London, 1892, decoration refreshed

BY APPOINTMENT TO THE QUEEN AND THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES, THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES. Established in 1734 they were based at 144 New Bond Street and at 5 & 6 Little Bruton Street, Westminster.
