Decorated overall with Chinese rural and fishing scenes of figures on horseback, farming, boats on the water, dogs and birds, the rectangular moulded cornice decorated overall with geometric and floral designs above a pair of doors each with arched beveled mirror plates enclosing a red-japanned interior with three adjustable shelves above two candle slides, the bureau with hinged slope enclosing simulated Nashiji-lined drawers and pigeon holes, with green leather-lined writing-surface, above two short and one long frieze drawer, on hexagonal turned legs joined by a waved X-shaped stretcher surmounted by an urn finial, on ball feet, with paper label to the reverse inscribed in ink 'John Whitcombe', the stretcher strengthened
