Lot Essay

This chair in the French manner relates to a design of a 'Modern Chair now in use' in Thomas Malton's Complete Treatise of Perspective, 1775, pl. XXXIII, fig. 131. A similar set of armchairs were sold anonymously in these Rooms, 23 June 1960, lot 90.
