A SET OF FOUR GILTWOOD ARMCHAIRS WITH 18TH CENTURY BEAUVAIS TAPESTRY
Each with an oval padded back and bow-fronted seat covered in Beauvais tapestry of a garland-hung urn below tassel-tied curtains surrounded by flowers and foliage on an ivory ground, the seat with a musical or gardening trophy surrounded by flowers and foliage on a conforming ground, the oval back with spiral ribbon-band and tied-ribbon bow cresting, the outsplayed brown velvet upholstered padded arms with lotus-bud clasp handles on downswept reeded and husk-trailed supports, above a gadrooned seatrail, on square tapering panelled legs headed by patera-centred panels and hung with husk-trails, on pinched spade feet, one chair stamped 'GC' and inscribed in pencil to the seatrail 'Stock/Second Stuffd/& Covered -', one chair stamped 'GC' and inscribed in pencil to the seatrail 'Stock/Finished,/Painter/Painter', one chair stamped four times 'J.D.M', and inscribed in pencil to the seatrail 'Keepe/Stocks', one chair stamped six times 'J.D.M' and inscribed in pencil to the seatrail 'Keepe', with batten carrying-holes, regilt (4)
