Lot Essay

Shiwan ware is a particularly popular form of pottery made in the south of China since the Tang dynasty (618-906). Animal and human figures were the most frequently produced and related examples to the present lot are illustrated in the catalogue for the 'Exhibition of Shiwan Wares', 1979 at the Fung Ping Shan Musuem, University of Hong Kong (Exhibition Catalogue, p. 126).
