Lot Essay

The sitter was the daughter of Sir George Cary, Knt., of Torre Abbey, Devon. She married, in 1694, Sir Thomas Manby, Knt. (d. 1729), of Bracebridge, Lincolnshire and Downsell Hall, Essex, who was High Sheriff of Essex (1688), as his second wife.
