A French silver-hilted small-sword, and a Continental steel-hilted small-sword
The first circa 1770, the second circa 1800
The first with blade of flattened hexagonal section etched on each side of the forte, the hilt pierced, cast and chased with trellis designs interrupted by flowerheads involving urns framed by wreaths, all within borders of rococo scrolls, flowers, and foliage (guard broken), and with wooden grip bound with twisted silver wire and silver ribbon (loose); the second with blade of hollow triangular section, the pierced and chiselled hilt with oval guard set with four faceted bosses in imitation of brilliants, the grip bound with twisted steel wire and copper ribbon (slight pitting on blade and hilt)
