The first with broad fullered blade etched 'Viva Dona Maria Rainha De Portugal' on each face and stamped 'P. Knecht Solingen', the hilt comprising guard of slender bars framing a pair of circular shells pierced with a cross and stars, slender recurved quillons, slender knuckle-guard, faceted globular pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip; the last with large fluted pommel, and wire-bound grip

Lot Essay

The inscription probably refers to Queen Maria II of Portugal (1826-28, 1833-1853)
