A schiavona
Venetian or Dalmatian, 18th century
The single-edged blade with three fullers on each face changing to double-edged and two fullers towards the point, struck on one face near the base the signature 'Andon Ferarara', characteristic iron basket guard comprising flat radiating bars and trellis-work, one bar signed 'Sava' in cyrillic, shield-shaped brass pommel with raised central rosette on each face, leather-covered wooden grip, and original tooled leather scabbard-mouth cover at the base of the blade

The signature on the blade is a version of that of Zandonà [Giandonato] Ferrara of Belluno (recorded 1564-78), elder brother of the famous Andrea [Zanandrea] Ferrara
