A Spanish cup-hilt rapier
Mid-17th century
With associated double-edged blade (shortened) with central fuller on each face of the forte stamped 'Peter Brabender', the iron hilt comprising deep cup formed of two upturned convex shells linked by bars at the front and rear, the outer one chiselled in low relief with grotesque birds, an animal and foliage against a punched ground, arms, long straight slender quillons with ball-shaped terminals, slender knuckle-guard en suite, compressed pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip
