A very fine Swiss or German hand-and-a-half sword
First half of the 16th Century
With slender tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section struck with a mark within the single tapering fuller on each side of the forte, oblong ricasso incised with lines and struck with the same mark again on each side, blackened iron hilt with straight quillons of octagonal section each with flat tip, one bent outwards at right angles, lobed pear-shaped pommel divided into four sections by vertical slashes and with original tang-washer, and original shouldered flattened grip covered with leather finely tooled with flowers and foliage against a punched ground, in very fine untouched original condition throughout
