A rare Italian 'casquetel'
circa 1510
With rounded skull rising to a low keel and embossed with fan-shaped fluting on each side, large movable peak (replaced), articulated neck-guard of four overlapping plates, the lowest turned outwards, hinged cheek-pieces turned outwards and secured by a turning pin at the base to the bottom of the neck-plate, and later leathers, and dome-headed rivets

The present helmet appears to have been refurbished during its working life, probably with the addition of the cheek-pieces, which are not fitted to other known examples
